A Gift for my Tween Daughter

Saturday, September 1, 2018

My daughter turned 11 years old and starting middle school this year. On fifth grade at her school they started preparing them with health classes about puberty and the changes in their body and most of them she already knew, but I knew I had to step in and gave her a bit more information on the subject knowing that in middle school most kids already have a phone with access to all kinds of information.

Growing up is exciting but at the same time it can be scary the unknown. To make this stage something special I gave her a gift to welcome her to tweenhood! (of course I didn't say this to her as it might be embarrassing) It was a cute toiletry bag that she could carry on her backpack to be fully prepared with pads, lip balm, gum and of course she is able to add more items like a deodorant, cleansing cloths, perfume, small brush, etc. All to keep her clean, looking great and smelling fresh! She hasn't started her period yet but again it doesn't send you a notification that is coming soon so is best to be ready.

Since she likes reading I found these two books full of information about the subject of her body. They are called "The Care & Keeping of You" from Americal Girl Library. https://amzn.to/2uAyzmb
I truly recommend this, is all about the changes in their body, how to take care of themselves and much more. We as parents might give them the basic information but there is a whole lot more, if we were to talk about it with them it can be overwhelming and in cases a bit embarrassing for them. In some cases is best to give them the right tools to be informed in the correct way, rather than them asking other kids or searching online and finding the wrong information.

Thankfully this has open a door of communication between us mom and daughter, knowing that if she has questions she can come and ask me at any time. Even if your daughter is not a fan of reading still give her a book and whenever she gets questions she will have the correct information.

My daughter was very excited about the bag and immediately started reading the book. She asked for the number two as she wanted to be ahead.

Next is "the talk" I'll share on another post.

XOXO
Magaly
