In Houston one of the big events of the year is the Livestock Show & Rodeo. Is a fun day where you get to wear your cowboy boots, plaid shirt and your off to a great day! You can do lots of things from play at the carnival rides, games, learn about animals, shop, eat a lot (funnel cakes), go to the concert along with the rodeo and more! Our first year going to the rodeo was back in 2011 when Alessandro was only two months and Isabella was three years old...aww!
We have tried to go every year since then. Now that my kids are older we also go to the concert because they can enjoy their favorite artist.
This year was a bit different because we were going to the concert/rodeo with a baby and it works if you are prepared. So how was our day? I think it worked great because as a starter there was an 80% chance of rain but at the end it didn’t rain at all. We like to go on a Sunday before the spring break starts. We prefer to get there in the morning to find good parking space and to start with the carnival games, this way the sun is not so heavy and the lines are a bit shorter. Now of course after going to Disneyland during spring break, this is nothing! My son likes slow games like the fun houses and my daughter likes fast games like roller coaster. They are so different!
There many games to pick and you can do as much as your wallet lets you. The cost is basically $0.50 per ticket where you can buy a minimum of $5 for 10 tickets. The games that I saw are from 5-10 tickets per person. As you know there not many things to do for babies and is understandable due to safety, so my baby Camilla just stayed in the stroller most of the time while bro and sis enjoyed the fun. Next year she will be able to enjoy some toddler games like smaller rides.
Then we go to the food area were you can pick anything you want from BBQ, hamburgers, everything fried and more. My son always has chicken and fries everywhere he goes (he calls them papas and pollo even tough he doesn't speak much Spanish!) We all enjoyed a good meal.
Now that we were full we needed to walk a bit and we went inside the NRG Center where you can do your shopping but being with kids you just keep walking :) until we are able to see the area where the all the baby animals are and is just aww all over. My kids also like to pick their sunflower seed to see it grow for the next few weeks.
So we did all the games, the food, we walked and now we are ready to sit and enjoy the show. This is the part I wasn't sure how it was going to be. We went to the NRG Stadium and yes you can go inside with your own stroller and diaper bag. Once you are inside before going to your seat you can find a check-in area where they will keep your stroller and all your baby items safe. As you know before the concert there is the rodeo, this is not so loud that you are able to keep your baby calm and entertain with toys. The rodeo is the best part you as you can see many talented people and my favorite part is the Mutton Bustin' as those kids are adorable and so strong!
Finally my kids where anxious to see the concert and by then we knew it was time to place my baby's headphone otherwise it is very loud. They worked so great that my baby went down to sleep, as she was already tired after a long day and in the middle of the concert. This time we saw Alessia Cara, such a beautiful voice specially since she was the singer of the Moana movie. The good thing is that the concert is only an hour, enough time for the kids. So yes it is possible to go to a rodeo/concert with a baby just bring toys, baby food, headphones! (important) and anything you think your baby might need.
At the end we were all so tired! The only downside is trying to leave after the concert, as many people do the same, if you are able to I recommend staying there for dinner just enough time for the traffic to slow down a bit. The rodeo is the best and I can't wait to keep going every year as our family tradition.
XOXO
